Stampede Round Up!

I think I needed just a good weekend to really have fun. I haven’t totally relaxed in a while and let loose and last weekend was a blast and a great way to round-out stampede.
First, I guess I should note that this is my first “corporate Calgary” downtown stampede. This, as opposed to last year where I was stuck physically isolated at the Airport as a summer job. So my week was a full on eating festival … a pancake breakfast here and there … the occasional lunch was always nice too! Just be prepared to line up and face the occasional wrath of elderly Asian grandparents on the prowl for free food (free food + Asians = magnetic).
Thursday I had a nice dinner @ Fiore with Vania and Wang Wee, our new Malaysian intern which was really nice. Friday was the true beginning of the gong show in which work ended at 11 where we went to Bonterra Trattoria (I recommend going there, par excellent) for a four course meal including free “beverages” along the way. After which we made our way to the Roadhouse for what I like to call “get the Summer Student wasted day” where the shots (including the “inappropriate” kind if you know what I mean) kept on coming … lets just say that the lunch tasted a lot better on the way down than it did on the way up. Ewww. Thanks for the drinks boys (esp. the water)! Friday night involved going to the Stampede grounds, the highlight of which was going to see Our Lady Peace (sweeet) … complete with 15 year old children smoking up in front of us. Classy (especially when the one friend is wrapping it on the floor) … Saturday, pub crawl day … 2 busses of AIESECers etc. + Schanks + Cowboys + Ranchmans + Back Alley (cheap drinks!) + Coyotes = a pretty awesome day, even better since I didn’t puke! …Sunday … BBQ at Lake Sundance, also really nice and relaxing especially just laying in the sun or paddle boating. Just for a moment its like you aren’t in Calgary .. it takes 40 minutes to drive to it from my house so it pretty much fits the bill anyways! Thank you so much to Samantha (et al.) for putting together such a great weekend. And it was all rounded out with a great dinner (with delicious Safeway cake (who da thought)) at Smuggler’s Inn with Jenny Au from UBC (who likes her food!) on Monday nite. All in all a great mini-vacation or as we like to call it just antoher Stampede in Calgary … all good except for the fact that I got sick now (hello Advil Cold & Sinus..) …must be all those pub crawl germs! … til next July …
